Cat Jenkins, Co-ordinator of The Other Island, said

‘We’re beyond grateful that these two terrific charities, which themselves do so much for the Island’s marginalised people, have been kind enough to comment on the project.

We hope it’ll be an encouragement both to participants, and to potential sponsors, to get in touch with us.

Michael Manning, Co-ordinator of Graih, the charity which helps those who are homeless or in insecure accommodation, said this:

‘One of the difficulties facing people in a small island community is, paradoxically, the silencing that takes place. Voices are not heard and dissent from a well-intentioned desire to present the island as wholly wonderful is not welcomed. Graih has been involved at many levels, over the years, to try and get the stories of the marginal heard. In our experience those on the edges of society grasp their opportunity to tell their stories; it happens so rarely.’

Thea Ozenturk of Motiv8, an organisation with offers various types of support to those struggling with addictions, and those close to them, said this:

‘Suffering from addictive behaviours in our small island community can be challenging on multiple levels. Stigma and embarrassment can leave sufferers on the edges of society, often feeling marginalised and unable to express their views. I am confident this initiative will bring about further understanding and tolerance.’
